It has been an exciting week at Stress and Health Online. Earlier this week, I posted an interview with a blog reader sharing her story of stress in a new Stress and Health Online blog series called “STRESS STORIES.” I am excited to introduce a second blog feature this week called SPA SPOTLIGHT. One of my favorite ways to relax is to go to spas. I generally like to try new things and so I also enjoy trying new spas. I have a few favorites near my home, but I am always on the lookout for a good place. I also travel quite a bit and sometimes go to spas in these destinations, so hopefully I will be able to review some spas where you live!
For each SPA SPOTLIGHT, I will describe each service that I received in the spa and the cost of these services to me. Since I can’t help but measure things, I will review spas based on several criteria, including “Ambiance” of the spa, “Cleanliness” of the spa, “Quality” of services provided, “Value” of the spa services, and the degree of “Relaxation” that I experienced at the spa. I will rate these aspects of the spas on a 1 to 10 scale. The higher numbers mean that I found that aspect of the spa to be great, where as lower numbers mean that aspect needs improvement. In addition to my ratings, I will also try to describe any special features of the spa or the spa services, such as refreshments, special equipment, or a particularly nice location. Also, I will let you know if I would return to the spa in the future and why.
How I Learned About Complexions Day Spa
I first learned about Complexions Day Spa when I received a Groupon in my email. If you are a Groupon subscriber, there are often spa specials, but this one caught my eye as it was offering a Pedicure, European Facial, Resurfacing Face Treatment, Firming Eye Treatment, and a Grape Seed-Oil Hand Treatment–all for $48. The Groupon claimed that the regular price of the services were $240. I thought that it was too good to be true, but after doing a little research, I went ahead and purchased the Groupon and hoped for the best. A few weeks ago, I made the 45 minute drive from my home to where spa was located at 7310 Central Ave in Saint Petersburg, Florida. I am not the best with directions and got a bit lost, but finally found the spa tucked away in a small strip mall.
My Ratings of Complexions Day Spa
Ambiance: When I drove up to Complexions Day Spa, I was a bit concerned. It was not exactly a “pretty” strip mall, if there is such a thing. I entered the front door that led down a very long hall. I was provided the facial services in one room and the pedicure and hand treatment in a second room. The building where the spa is located is definitely old and in need of some updating, especially the ceilings. On the other hand, the spa has been decorated in a comfortable and welcoming fashion. For Ambiance, I give Complexions Day Spa a five ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ rating.
Cleanliness: Cleanliness is very important to me in a spa, and I found Complexions Day Spa to be pretty clean. I was provided spa services in two rooms, which I found to be pretty clean. The furniture, floors, linens, and all equipment and supplies appeared to be clean. For Cleanliness, I give Complexions Day Spa an eight ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ rating.
Quality: My spa services were provided by Lori, who was excellent. She had good suggestions for my skin care and provided a very relaxing facial with a neck and shoulder massage. The products that she used on my face were appropriate for my very stressed skin. She also provided a great pedicure, which three weeks later, still looks reasonably good. The techniques that she used in the neck and shoulder massage as well as the foot massage were perfect. I tend to carry a lot of stress in my neck and shoulders and sometimes find massages to be painful, but the amount of pressure that she applied was appropriate. In addition, she was friendly and calming. She made one suggestion of a collagen mask for my face that I decided to try. All in all, the quality of the spa services was great. For Quality, I gave Complexions Day spa a nine ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ rating.
Value: Of course the cost of all of these services was very reasonable for the price that I paid which was $48 for the Groupon plus $25 for the collagen mask plus the tip (which is calculated on the original $240 price of the services, not the Groupon price). I am not completely sure if the services would have actually been worth $240. While the quality of the services was excellent, the spa was not exactly luxurious. However, the price that I paid for the services was much less, so the value was pretty good. When I left, I was given a coupon for the same services for $59, leading me to believe that the services really did not cost quite so much. However, for the price that I paid, the value was pretty good. For Value, I gave Complexions Day spa a seven ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ rating.
Relaxation: I felt reasonably relaxed during my experience at Complexions Day Spa. I attribute it mostly to the quality of spa services provided by Lori. At times, I even felt rather groggy, which is unusual for me. For Relaxation, I gave Complexions Day Spa an eight ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ rating.
Will I Return to Complexions Day Spa?
Overall, I found the experience at Complexions Day Spa to be a good one, and I would be willing to return for additional services, especially with the $59 coupon. The best aspects about this spa were the talents of its employee, its value, and its cleanliness. If you are looking for a no-frills spa that provides good services, Complexions Day Spa may be a good choice for you.
If you have been to Complexions Day Spa, how was your experience?
